Calming your mind

Each one has to find his peace from within.
And peace to be real must be unaffected
by outside circumstances.
Mahatma Gandhi

Do you ever wake up in the middle of the night with frantic thoughts about all the stuff you need to get done the next day? Do you ever feel unsure about where to start because you have so many things to do and not nearly enough time to get it all done?

Everyone has these feelings occasionally, but you can begin to overcome them by learning to calm your mind. A calm mind is a more alert, attentive and proactive mind, and in learning to remove your anxious thinking, you can learn to enjoy your life more.

Gaining peace within

When your mind is racing non-stop, you will be hard-pressed to find inner peace. The faster your mind races, the more anxious and frustrated you will become, and this causes you to be unproductive. You really don’t have to go on living this way. There are many ways to calm your overactive mind that you can easily learn and will help you lead a more calm and peaceful life.

Stop-Breathe-Say

If your mind starts running a million miles a second, and you are not sure which way to turn next, try to stop, take a breath and repeat a positive affirmation. When you use the power of positive self-talk (rather than negative self-talk), you will begin to reprogram your mind to work in newer and different ways.

When things feel like they are getting completely out of hand, you can use an affirmation like, “I trust in my ability to relax. I am calm and peaceful.” Although this may not be the case at this exact moment, if you repeat this a few times, and actually listen to yourself saying it, you will begin to believe it. This will help you change your internal dialog in those precious few moments when you are tempted to give in to the craziness that is surrounding you.

Positive affirmations are important because they give you permission to turn off the negative dialog racing through your mind and replace it with positive thoughts. The negative dialog feeds the feelings of fear, doubt and turmoil, and when you replace them with peaceful affirmations, you change your life and your outlook, one positive statement and one positive step at a time.

If you have a hard time believing that this strategy will work for you, give it a try. But you must approach this with both an open heart and mind. It really does work! In a very short time you will begin to feel more at peace and you can reap the benefits in every area of your life.

Sidestep the craziness

Many People think and feel that they cannot do anything about the crazy lives they lead, the inner discontent they feel and the crazy people they work and socialize with. I can assure you that this is not the case. When you use positive affirmations, you can reprogram your brain so that there is only room for positive thinking. You will be surprised to find how quickly a positive affirmation like,  “I trust that there is a plan for my life, even if it has yet to be revealed to me” can work for you.

If you feel as though your life has gotten knocked off course and you do not feel that it is possible to get back to leading a calmer life, why not give a peaceful affirmation a try?  If you repeat the positive affirmations often enough, you will soon begin to believe them, and you will be able to turn a seemingly simple statement into your desired reality.

In order to begin furthering your personal development, you need to be aware of the different personal development techniques and strategies available, and then you need to find ones that work for you. The article you are about to read will give you plenty of tips to get going on your personal development plan.

You will miss opportunities if you avoid making important decisions. You should not fear making decisions even if you do not feel as sure about it as you would like to be. Successful decisions evolve into good instincts. Even mistaken decisions are valuable because they provide instructive learning experiences. When you make the incorrect decision, learn from this, and make sure that it never happens again.

Know which values and characteristics are important to you before designing a program for personal development. Focusing on areas you don't value, doesn't make sense. Instead of this, you should focus your energy on the things that you want to develop that also go along with your own values. This is the best way to make long-term changes.

You should stay in great physical condition in order to get the best out of personal development. You can do this by getting a sufficient amount of sleep, exercising frequently, and maintaining a healthy diet. You will have more energy if you are in shape, and therefore will be more successful in your personal development efforts. It may seem easy, but it can be quite difficult to properly care for yourself.

Exercising is not only a way to lose weight. There are many reason you should do physical exercise. Exercising causes the release of endorphins that make you feel happier and less irritable.

One way to raise your self-esteem is to give other people compliments. Fighting this trend and complimenting others changes your mindset and makes you a kinder person.

It will come in really handy when something goes wrong. Having an emergency fund will prevent you from having to use credit cards to pay for unexpected expenses, which will save you a great deal in interest over the years.

Instead of talking about your accomplishments, ask some other people about some of the things they have accomplished and what they are most proud of. This will help you to remain humble while giving you a picture of how people around you operate.

As was stated in the above article, there are various ways to improve yourself as well, as what goes on in your life, by focusing on your personal development. Use the development ideas that you find most appropriate to your own situation. Who do you wish to become? Applying the advice from this article will most certainly help guide you to your personal development goals.

If you avoid making decisions, then you are denying yourself opportunities. You should not avoid decision making, even if you feel that you do not have all the information. Good instincts are the result of successful decisions. Even mistakes are valuable as they are instructive learning decisions. A wrong choice only ensures that your next choice will be better.

Remember to practice your core principles. Every person has beliefs that serve their core sense of self. Having a good foundation based on your core principles will benefit your sense of self esteem. Another bonus is the fact that doing so will encourage you to be steadfast in how you conduct your life, and that is something that will garner great respect.

Declaring lowliness is a crucial step in advancing in personal development. Understanding that you are a minute portion of the world will help you think about your level of knowledge. Once you see the bigger picture, you will be able to embrace everything that the world has to offer you.

Stay in top physical condition to maximize your personal development success. Make sure you are getting enough sleep, eating a healthy diet, and exercising on a regular schedule so that you have enough energy during the day, and you will find it will be a little easier to reach success. While it may sound simple, this is sometimes one of the most difficult things to do.

Instead of boasting about trophies, awards, and medals, try asking others about their achievements. You'll be able to find out about the wonderful things the people you know have accomplished, bringing about a new-found respect and admiration for them.

You must take care of yourself if you expect to do a good job caring for others. Whether you're just starting your personal development plan or are well down the road and regardless of whether you're succeeding or failing, you have to set aside time for yourself to rest, relax, and regroup.

Many people are unaware that diet can affect feelings of depression, as an increase in consumption of complex carbohydrates can help. If your complex carb intake is lower than recommended, your body won't produce enough serotonin. Increase your consumption of fresh fruits, raw vegetables, nuts, brown rice, assorted beans and whole grains to have a diet that is enriched in complex carbohydrates.

You only need to remember one key to live and lead a successful life. You need to make the choice to stay active in life, and not sit on the sidelines. If you act only as a spectator, no one will really pay attention to you, so be active!

Educating yourself is an important part of personal development. It is also important that you apply what you know. There are many different facets to self-improvement. You will be more self-assured once you implement the suggestions in this article.

How to Reduce Stress – Take Charge of Your Life

There is a school of thought that believes that we live in concentric circles, going round and round.

The circle at the centre represents our goals.

When an individual makes a decision they step from one circle onto another, advancing toward the centre. There are many circles to traverse. Some may take longer than others.

By reading this article you have just taken a very important step toward your goal, simply – How to Reduce Stress

How to Reduce Stress Under Pressure?

You have hormones in your body that are released to enable you to deal with pressurized situations, sometimes referred to as fight or flight response .

Once the threat has passed, your hormones will usually return to normal.

Do you feel you are constantly in fight or fight mode? Do you feel anxious; have issues, or problems balancing your self-esteem?

Is everyday life an obstacle course of challenges?

So, What’s wrong with me? How do I tackle it?

It’s called stress. It’s not an illness, but this invisible affliction can cause some damage, especially at work.

With a few simple techniques you can break the cycle, recognize the signs and step away from the triggers of stress.

If every journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step, you have just taken that step.

To Reduce Stress, Bring on the ZZZ’s

Let’s face it; if we don’t get enough sleep, then we won’t be in performance mode for work the next day.

You prepare for a good day by getting a well-earned rest, so why not do it properly. Pamper yourself. Give your body a treat.

A warming drink or a glass of milk and already you are informing your body to wind down.

Comfortable PJ’s, maybe even a bathrobe. Lower the lights. Get snugly with a book, but make it a note book and write all the stuff that’s bothering you. Don’t write a novel, but get most of your concerns down on one page.

This gets the unconscious to work way before you do. And as you prepare for sleep your physical self relaxes knowing everything is in hand.

Had Enough Sleep? Your body knows how to reduce stress

Note to self: if your alarm clock wakes you up, take a tip, you’re not getting enough sleep. When a person has enough sleep, they wake up before the alarm. Tomorrow night, go to bed earlier.

Smile and the whole world is a happy place

This may take some practice but it’s easy and free: Smile when you wake up. Greet your loved ones with a smile in the morning.

Such a small facial expression can change everything.

Smile at people on the train to work. Smile when someone opens the door for you. Do not be perturbed if people don’t return your smile, but have another little smile when they do.

Have a Sumptuous Breakfast to Reduce Stress

Breakfast means just that: breaking your fast of several hours without food. It is strange how many people skip breakfast.

Sustenance is crucial to your body in the morning. By eating well at breakfast performance is improved and energy levels are higher.

A good breakfast will power you through to lunch.

A bad breakfast will leave you feeling distracted, irritable and craving poor quality substitutes.

Note to self: There is a reason why people eat porridge. Foods rich in carbohydrates like oats maintain levels of serotonin, the chemical that has stress-relief properties.

Good, Now let’s go to work!

Now you are at work and as usual you have people clawing you for answers. Take a moment to yourself and identify what it is at work you do well.

Recognize the input you have and give yourself a pat on the back. Then, the next time someone asks you do a task you don’t have time for, politely say no. It won’t hurt as much as you think.

There are several ways to say no:

  1. Sorry, I can’t schedule this for today  (I’m just too busy)
  2. Please come back and discuss this in the morning. (It’s no now, but yes tomorrow)
  3. I don’t have time, but I can show you how. (It’s your job. You should do it.)

Say it loud, say it proud

Note to self: Saying no may make you unpopular in the short term, but in the long term it will become a valuable asset.

At lunch time pick up the phone. Arrange some physical exercise. Mountain biking is a lot of fun; but not necessarily in terms of aerobic exercise.

Firstly you get a lot of sunshine (vitamin D), fresh air is obligatory and usually you will be amongst nature with friends.

These are all big stress release tools. If that does not suit, try picking up the tennis racket again. Testosterone keeps you motivated.

Don’t Forget to Breathe

Breathing is the simplest tool in your kit for relieving stress. Shut the office door, close your eyes for five minutes and focus on your breath. Do not think of this as meditation, just oxygenating your body.

Bullets:

  • Eat and drink sensibly. Diet plays an important part in relieving stress.
  • Maintain friendships: Just listening and talking to friends can make a huge difference, so make sure you devote time to nurturing your friendships.
  • Exercise. The effects are immediate and uplifting. Exercise should be fun and sociable.
  • Sleep works both physically and mentally, renewing energy both physically and mentally.
  • A problem shared is a problem aired and is a top stress-buster. Don’t be afraid to ask for help from a friend, family member or from a professional.
  • Take time out to do something for you and only for you, whatever your hobbies and interests, invest in some you-time.
  • Your life does not have to revolve around work. Really. Nothing is more important than your health so take it easy.

Note to self: Time management involves setting your priorities in accordance to your goals. That includes allotting time for the things that matter.

Physical conditioning means preparing your body to cope with your daily schedule. Have the right amount of sleep, take the right kind of exercise and eat the right foods. Once every so often learn to say the word NO and don’t forget to smile.

How do you reduce stress?

Reducing stress basically starts with taking charge of your life. But is it easy? No, certainly but starting small and trying to incorporate every step into your lifestyle will put you on the right path. Do you agree? Do you follow any other methods?

Let me know in the comments section below!

Will Changing Careers Really Make You Happier?

Whenever things get bad at work, whenever your boss pisses you off or you have to sit through another pointless meeting, you allow yourself a little dream.

You dream about meaningful work and the autonomy to do it at your own pace.

You dream about working hard and playing hard and loving every moment of both.

You imagine disconnecting from your caffeine lifeline, because you’ll be so darn happy in your dream career (whatever it is), you’ll be bursting with energy and enthusiasm. The stress will be gone, along with the crankiness and fatigue.

Or will it?

You worry you’re just kidding yourself. Can the grass really be greener in a new career? Or are you destined to be unhappy and unfulfilled no matter where you go?

In my own career change, I found some things almost instantaneously became better. For example, as an introvert, working in a job that required me to attend meetings all day, every day was draining. When I switched to working from home, I instantly had the energy to reengage and enjoy my friends and family again. These days, I average a social get-together about once a week as opposed to once a month (or longer).

Other problems were maddeningly unchanged, or in some cases, got worse. My tendency to over-commit to projects, leading to suffocating feelings of being overwhelmed, were not aided by becoming my own boss. I was a lot less short-tempered than when I worked in a big bureaucracy, but I still experienced more stress than I wanted.

I realized that changing careers isn’t the fast track to outrunning your inner demons. But it can be just what you need to outsmart them. Let me explain …

How stress can set you free

One of my clients, who is studying to get her license as a new financial planner, told me she thought she’d made a terrible mistake.

She’s always been on the anxious side and changing careers had only made it worse. Could she really make it as a financial planner? The stress and worry were driving her crazy and she found herself longing for the easy predicability of her old job, the one she had been so desperate to leave.

And she wanted to know: was the stress a sign that she’d made the wrong choice?

I told her there was no way of knowing without doing. Studying for a licensing exam is in no way representative of the life of a financial planner.

Had she told me she was bored by the material I might have wondered. Had she told me she was shadowing a couple of financial planners and the process made her stomach turn, I would have been concerned.

But in fact, she was just experiencing anxiety while undergoing a major change in her life. I felt pretty comfortable saying that the stress she was experiencing was not only normal, it was exactly what she needed.

When you’re struggling to solve an inner conflict, the more pain you’re in, the closer you are to a solution.

Our instincts tell us to pull away from pain. If something’s hot, stop touching it. If something hurts, stop doing it.

But that doesn’t always work when we’re talking about “first world problems” like stress and a vague sense of unease. Sometimes what we need is a forcing function to figure out how to deal with the issue we’ve been avoiding.

I told my client that I can’t know if financial planning is right for her until she gets in there and gives it a shot.

But I know for certain that finding constructive ways to deal with stress and uncertainty will make her happier no matter what career she’s in.

How to Discover Your Life Purpose in About 20 Minutes

How do you discover your real purpose in life? I’m not talking about your job, your daily responsibilities, or even your long-term goals. I mean the real reason why you’re here at all — the very reason you exist.

Perhaps you’re a rather nihilistic person who doesn’t believe you have a purpose and that life has no meaning. Doesn’t matter. Not believing that you have a purpose won’t prevent you from discovering it, just as a lack of belief in gravity won’t prevent you from tripping. All that a lack of belief will do is make it take longer, so if you’re one of those people, just change the number 20 in the title of this blog entry to 40 (or 60 if you’re really stubborn). Most likely though if you don’t believe you have a purpose, then you probably won’t believe what I’m saying anyway, but even so, what’s the risk of investing an hour just in case?

Here’s a story about Bruce Lee which sets the stage for this little exercise. A master martial artist asked Bruce to teach him everything Bruce knew about martial arts. Bruce held up two cups, both filled with liquid. “The first cup,” said Bruce, “represents all of your knowledge about martial arts. The second cup represents all of my knowledge about martial arts. If you want to fill your cup with my knowledge, you must first empty your cup of your knowledge.”

If you want to discover your true purpose in life, you must first empty your mind of all the false purposes you’ve been taught (including the idea that you may have no purpose at all).

So how to discover your purpose in life? While there are many ways to do this, some of them fairly involved, here is one of the simplest that anyone can do. The more open you are to this process, and the more you expect it to work, the faster it will work for you. But not being open to it or having doubts about it or thinking it’s an entirely idiotic and meaningless waste of time won’t prevent it from working as long as you stick with it — again, it will just take longer to converge.

Here’s what to do:

Take out a blank sheet of paper or open up a word processor where you can type (I prefer the latter because it’s faster).
Write at the top, “What is my true purpose in life?”
Write an answer (any answer) that pops into your head. It doesn’t have to be a complete sentence. A short phrase is fine.
Repeat step 3 until you write the answer that makes you cry. This is your purpose.
That’s it. It doesn’t matter if you’re a counselor or an engineer or a bodybuilder. To some people this exercise will make perfect sense. To others it will seem utterly stupid. Usually it takes 15-20 minutes to clear your head of all the clutter and the social conditioning about what you think your purpose in life is. The false answers will come from your mind and your memories. But when the true answer finally arrives, it will feel like it’s coming to you from a different source entirely.

For those who are very entrenched in low-awareness living, it will take a lot longer to get all the false answers out, possibly more than an hour. But if you persist, after 100 or 200 or maybe even 500 answers, you’ll be struck by the answer that causes you to surge with emotion, the answer that breaks you. If you’ve never done this, it may very well sound silly to you. So let it seem silly, and do it anyway.

As you go through this process, some of your answers will be very similar. You may even re-list previous answers. Then you might head off on a new tangent and generate 10-20 more answers along some other theme. And that’s fine. You can list whatever answer pops into your head as long as you just keep writing.

At some point during the process (typically after about 50-100 answers), you may want to quit and just can’t see it converging. You may feel the urge to get up and make an excuse to do something else. That’s normal. Push past this resistance, and just keep writing. The feeling of resistance will eventually pass.

You may also discover a few answers that seem to give you a mini-surge of emotion, but they don’t quite make you cry — they’re just a bit off. Highlight those answers as you go along, so you can come back to them to generate new permutations. Each reflects a piece of your purpose, but individually they aren’t complete. When you start getting these kinds of answers, it just means you’re getting warm. Keep going.

It’s important to do this alone and with no interruptions. If you’re a nihilist, then feel free to start with the answer, “I don’t have a purpose,” or “Life is meaningless,” and take it from there. If you keep at it, you’ll still eventually converge.

When I did this exercise, it took me about 25 minutes, and I reached my final answer at step 106. Partial pieces of the answer (mini-surges) appeared at steps 17, 39, and 53, and then the bulk of it fell into place and was refined through steps 100-106. I felt the feeling of resistance (wanting to get up and do something else, expecting the process to fail, feeling very impatient and even irritated) around steps 55-60. At step 80 I took a 2-minute break to close my eyes, relax, clear my mind, and to focus on the intention for the answer to come to me — this was helpful as the answers I received after this break began to have greater clarity.

Here was my final answer: to live consciously and courageously, to resonate with love and compassion, to awaken the great spirits within others, and to leave this world in peace.

When you find your own unique answer to the question of why you’re here, you will feel it resonate with you deeply. The words will seem to have a special energy to you, and you will feel that energy whenever you read them.

Discovering your purpose is the easy part. The hard part is keeping it with you on a daily basis and working on yourself to the point where you become that purpose.

If you’re inclined to ask why this little process works, just put that question aside until after you’ve successfully completed it. Once you’ve done that, you’ll probably have your own answer to why it works. Most likely if you ask 10 different people why this works (people who’ve successfully completed it), you’ll get 10 different answers, all filtered through their individual belief systems, and each will contain its own reflection of truth.

Obviously, this process won’t work if you quit before convergence. I’d guesstimate that 80-90% of people should achieve convergence in less than an hour. If you’re really entrenched in your beliefs and resistant to the process, maybe it will take you 5 sessions and 3 hours, but I suspect that such people will simply quit early (like within the first 15 minutes) or won’t even attempt it at all. But if you’re drawn to read this blog (and haven’t been inclined to ban it from your life yet), then it’s doubtful you fall into this group.

Give it a shot! At the very least, you’ll learn one of two things: your true purpose in life -or- that you should unsubscribe from this blog.

Self-Motivation - Six keys

Here are six keys to help you with self-motivation - see what you think ....

"Don't let what you can't do stop you from doing what you can do"

Self-Motivation Key #1 – Remember your “why” .
It’s easy to stay motivated when your reasons for wanting to improve your life are fresh in your mind - but motivation can all too readily dissipate as time goes on. So write down your reasons for wanting to make positive changes or pursue greater goals. Read them to yourself to keep them fresh in your mind, and review them when you need a mental or emotional boost. Having a sense of purpose will help keep you energised.

Self-Motivation Key #2 – Eliminate distractions.
If you’re feeling scattered and unfocused, try working in a secluded spot, closing the door for some quiet, or even wearing earplugs to shut out excessive noise. Once the distractions are gone, you might find your motivation increasing and your determination returning.

Self-Motivation Key #3 – Read something inspirational.
Nowadays there is no shortage of inspiring reading material available for purchase. Visit your local bookstore and get a few books with motivational themes and make a point of reading a few pages before you start your day. When you feel unmotivated, open one of these books randomly and let your finger fall blindly onto a passage from the book. Read that passage and let it speak to you. Does it hold a message that relates to your situation and helps to inspire you to move into action.

Self-Motivation Key #4 - Surround yourself with inspiration.
Do you have some favourite plaques, prints or paintings that make you feel inspired? Fill up your blank walls with them! Visit a flea market or home décor store for visuals that lift your spirits. Go to a stock photo site and download a few beautiful images and have them blown up into a larger size at your local photo place. Take some of your favourite motivational quotes, enlarge the type, print and hang them up to read whenever you need a little boost. Hanging inspiring words and images in your home and workplace can create a continuous flow of inspiration that will keep you feeling motivated no matter what you’re working on.

And speaking of inspiration, I think you'll find the message in this video clip an uplifting one (just click the cross in the top right hand corner of the ad to get rid of the annoying ad)...

Self-Motivation Key #5 – Call a friend for support.
If you’ve got a friend or two who support you in your goals, give them a call! Tell them you’re having trouble getting started (or keeping momentum) and you need a kick in the rear. Tell them to remind you what you are working so hard for, and how excited you sounded the last time you spoke to them. This will only work with friends who do support you – not dream stealers.

Self-Motivation Key #6 – Re-assess your vision.
If you find yourself constantly needing to get motivated to work on your dream or goal, you might question whether it’s right for you any longer. Have you outgrown the original vision you had? If you conceived your dream or set your goal years ago, you might need to rethink what you want and see if you can expand on your original dream. You can even start from scratch if your original plans no longer inspire passion; you are a different person than you were even a year ago! Come up with something that you won’t have to work so hard to get motivated to do, and you solve not only your immediate need, but long-term needs also.

The Best Way To Get The Most Out Of Personal Development

People who are engaged in a program of personal development are actively trying to improve all aspects of their lives. If you want to reach the personal development goals you have set for yourself, you must try out different strategies to see what works for you. To help get you started, read the information in this article.

Learning to take controlled risks could bring you happiness. People are often afraid of failure and rejection, so they avoid risks and end up feeling unsatisfied. When you take a risk, you are showing yourself that you have courage, which is important to finding happiness.

In many ways, your attitude is reciprocal. If you wish harm upon others, harm may come to you instead. Wish others well in life so you feel positive empowerment. Negative feelings will be less burdensome and less depressing if you make it a practice to maintain a positive mood.

Stress is what often brings down happiness. When our minds are stressed, our mental and physical bodies are harmed. In order to reach your goals, the stress in your mind must be destroyed. Schedule in relaxation times throughout the day, clearing your mind in a peaceful setting. You can increase how good you feel about yourself and how at peace you feel by using this time to relax.

If failings don't respond to efforts at improvement, it may be wise to consult a therapist. Reading books on self-help may only take you so far. The personal consultation with a therapist gives more direct and focused help. Talking can be the motivation that some need in order to be successful. A psychiatrist can have a discussion with you, where a book cannot.

Do you consume too much alcohol? Do you smoke cigarettes or do anything else that is harmful to your body? The human body is sacred and it is important that you treat yours right. You can improve your life by replacing bad habits with good ones. Look at how you are living your life, and check if you are participating in any negative habits that should be eliminated.

They say that speaking and listening are equally important. This is definitely true concerning personal development. You should tune in to your own needs and desires when thinking or talking to yourself. You will not know what you want out of life when you do not heed your instincts.

Paying attention to your body is a good personal development practice. If your body feels you need to eat or drink, you should do it. Once you do this, your body will be better able to aid you for the long term. If you choose to ignore it, however, it may choose to ignore you at some point.

As was stated earlier in this article, personal development is a way to improve yourself and your life. Try different things and select the strategies that work best for your situation. The first few steps can be achieved with the help of the advice listed here.

Personal Development Advice That Can Help You Change Your Life

What more could someone desire than the absolute best personal development tips in existence. You want to change your life for the better and want to know how and where to get started. In this article, you will find some great pieces of advice to help you change for the better.

If you do not want to follow the herd, remember to ask questions. The fact is that many people accept the way the world is unquestionably, which can lead to a feeling of being unfulfilled. If you ask questions and take only the things of value that are offered to you, you'll be more likely to internalize only beneficial ideas.

With personal development make sure that you are not working harder to not do any work at all. This is important because many people try to avoid what seems hard, but in avoiding it they end up doing twice the amount of work or time than if they were to tackle the original problem head on.

Always make sure to stand and fight for what you believe in. If you do not take a stand and fight for your beliefs and values, then you have stood for nothing. Everyone must make their stand and it is important that you choose to make your stand for the right things.

In order to develop yourself in the best way, you must have insights with your understanding. Insight is the confidence that you have for the future. You can get insight by making sure that what you practice is consistent so that it becomes an essential part of your life for the present and future.

For a fresh perspective, try on another ideology for size. A Buddhist way of thinking often entails disposing of your ego and seeing the world as one thriving organism. In this sense, your impact on the world goes as far as your positive energy can take you. Try a new perspective to enhance your other personal development efforts. You might be surprised at how well it works!

Learn to tolerate other peoples' discomfort with the word no. Everyone needs to say no to somethings. Otherwise, the other people in our lives will take as much of our time and resources as we have to give them. When someone hears no and reacts negatively, it's more about them than you. If they persist, ask why they expect you to say no to your own family, health, goals, etc. just so you can say yes to them. Only say yes when it's something you truly want.

Learn how to breathe. It may seem like a natural thing to do, but if you take the time to learn different breathing techniques, you are surely going to be able to manage stressful situations better. Breathe in for a count of seven and breathe out for the count of eleven.

To summarize, you want to obtain reliable advice that will help you take a turn in your life and make improvements in multiple areas. As mentioned at the beginning, we have provided excellent advice that you should take and apply to as many aspects of your life as you can.

Be Your Very Best With These Personal Development Tips

In this day and age it can be hard to be your best. With so much going on, so much stress and a constant stream of poor economic growth you may need shortcuts to achieve your goals in personal development. Read on for some very helpful advice on how you can more readily reach your personal development aspirations, starting today.

You should always trust your gut. We are born with an incredible and innate power of intuition, which can help guide us away from harmful situations, people or ideas. If your intuition is telling you to stay away from it, it's best to stick with your gut instinct and protect your emotions.

A great personal development tip is to recognize and admit to yourself that there is a large gap between where your life is currently and where you want it to be. If you do not accept and acknowledge your current situation, you will have no chance of changing and improving your life.

Keep your goal in view. Taking steps to make a life change is a lot of hard work and quite often can feel uncomfortable since it is taking you out of your comfort zone. By focusing on the goal, it will allow you to see your future and keep you motivated to work toward that goal.

One great tip with regards to personal development is to make a plan and stick to it. Creating a plan to achieve a goal is great, but it is only half the battle. Understand that setting up goals and making plans is easy, executing them is the hard part.

If you are thinking about going down the path of self-help dealing with your anger problems, you must stay focused on your goal of being more relaxed. Often, events will happen that make you want to snap, but you need to stay focused and look past the brief enjoyment of anger.

Listen to your own prayers when times get tough. Many people say a prayer asking for help or direction, but reflecting upon your prayers and listening to your own inner guide is just as important. We each have different personality facets that live within us, and often times, we already know the right answer but one part of us resists acknowledging it.

Enlist the help of a homeopathic remedy for situational upsets. A relationship breakup or death of a loved one can send your emotions into a tail-spin. This sometimes results in a depressive response, called situational depression. A homeopathic remedy, Ignatia amara, is derived from the Saint Ignatiur bean and helps dissolve feelings of grief or hysteria.

Never give up! Personal development is a life long adventure, and there will be peaks and valleys. At the worst times don't falter, just continue to push through no matter how difficult it may be. These are the moments that will end up defining you as a person so view these moments in that light and persevere.

We all need a plan for personal development and some information on how to fulfill that plan. Hopefully, this article has garnered you some very useful ideas on how to do just that. With enough dedication and know-how, your personal development plan can be put into action and take effect, faster than you think!

Yakuza Style Tattoos

The Japanese mafia also known as the Yakuza hold within their skin some of the most detailed, vibrantly colored tattoos known to this world! But because of the Yakuza tattooing tradition, prejudice towards people with tattoos has developed in Japan, Yakuza or not. Even though this prejudice is slowly subsiding due to western influence such as celebrities in the United States rocking tattoos, it can still be seen. Some public bath houses and stores do not allow tattooed persons inside.

Tattoos have also been banned in Japan more than once in it’s history, so the Yakuza always stop their tattoos at the ankle, wrist and neck as their ancestors did, so the tattoo can easily be hidden by their clothing, just in case they become banned again even though this is very unlikely.

The method the Yakuza use for their tattoos is not a modern one, they use a method called “horimono” it’s done manually by hand with a stick with needles at the end usually in a bundle. This method is very painful, time consuming, and expensive, since the Yakuza cover most of their body with the tattoo it can actually take years to finish using this method and can cost up to fifty thousand dollars!

Why do Yakuza get tattoos in the first place? They get it for more than reason, for one they get the tattoo to show their determination, strength and willpower. They also get it to show their loyalty to their Yakuza clan and it’s lifestyle, and sometimes get a black ring around their arm for every crime they have committed. You might think the Yakuza get tattoos for the intimidation factor, but they don’t they rarely show their tattoos in public unless absolutely necessary.

Here’s a small clip from a documentary about horimono and the Yakuza that you may find interesting it probably explains it a little better than I do.

Popular designs for horimono can include, dragons, tigers, koi fish, plants, gods, geisha, samurai, and many more.

Read more about horimono/irezumi here - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Irezumi

Here’s a second video quite a bit longer but it has lots of examples of horimono tattoos.

THE TOP 10 DUMBEST CELEBRITY TATTOOS

To ink or not to ink… that is the question these celebrities should've asked before making such permanent and questionable decisions.

10. Stephen Baldwin

Stephen Baldwin will seemingly do anything to nab an acting job and grab a moment in the spotlight. The lesser known Baldwin reportedly made a friendly bet with Hannah Montana star Miley Cyrus. The duo became friends in 2007 after meeting at the White House (I want to know how that went down!) and Cyrus reportedly dared Baldwin to get Hannah Montana’s initials inked on his body. If he got inked, Cyrus would give Baldwin a guest spot on the Disney TV show. Fast-forward a year later, Baldwin showed off his HM tatt and Cyrus begrudgingly agreed to let him appear on her show.

9. Andy Milonakis

Andy Milonakis deserves credit for the marvelous irony that is his table tattoo. The youthful-looking comedian says that the intention of his tattoo is to make fun of the elitists who get “deep, meaningful” tattoos. While Milonakis gets points for making fun of douchebags, the tattoo is still dumb…and permanent. He could have easily made the exact same statement with a temporary tattoo. Is his table tatt still going to be ironic in 50 years when he’s a senior citizen and it’s all droopy and saggy? Then again, this might not be an issue as this guy might not be able to age.

8. Miley Cyrus

Miley Cyrus has recently vamped up her image in an effort to cross over from the tweener to a more mainstream audience. This has meant dressing proactively, sexing up her dance moves, and getting inked. The 17-year-old recently had the word “love” tattooed on the inside of her right ear. Now the meaning of the tatt is not known, nor is it known why she had it inked on the inside of her ear (could it have something to do with listening to love??). What is known is that it’s illegal for anyone under 18 to get inked in the U.S. without the prior consent of their parents. So let’s blame her parents. They should know better!

7. Megan Fox

The so-called sexiest woman in the world would be so much hotter is she weren’t covered in stupid, self-indulgent tattoos. The worst being her tattoo of movie icon Marilyn Monroe. The tatt on her inner right forearm is well crafted. The problem with it is it immediately reminds everyone that Megan Fox is not as talented or as beautiful as Monroe.

Fox also has her boyfriend Brian Austin Green’s first name inked on her pelvis and a nonsensical quote from Shakespeare’s King Lear on her back. It seems it doesn’t take much to inspire Ms. Fox to get a new tattoo. The sexpot recently got inked in honor of Mickey Rourke, with whom she recently worked with on a film. The Rourke-ster inspired her to have the phrase "Those who danced were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music" across her rib cage. I’ll leave it you to work out how this is connected to Rourke.

6. Hayden Panettiere

Hayden’s back tattoo is a lesson to celebrities getting inked in a language foreign to their own. The Heroes hottie thought she was being fancy and cultural when she had a tattoo written in Italian. The phrase was meant to say “Vivere senza rimpianti” which translates "to live without regrets.” Well, Ms. Panettiere is probably living with some regrets now as the tattoo contains a typo. The tattoo artist, obviously suffering from a momentary case of dyslexia, added an extra “i” to “rimpianti” resulting in it being spelled “rimipianti."

5. Eve

Eve’s favorite tattoo is a set of dog paw prints that appear on her chest. The rapper and all around badass says she got the tatts on a dare. Why is it that people do such stupid things on a dare? Anyway, Eve has come to appreciate and even love her paw prints. She thinks they “look good” and has actually found a personal meaning in them. She tells MTV News, “It's just funny, 'cause I got with the Ruff Ryders and they call themselves dogs and I call myself the bitch of the litter. And it just stuck, like the paws were supposed to be there.” Yep, they were just supposed to be there.

4. Steve-O

Jackass star Steve-O has a body covered in stupid tattoos. Among his collection of dim-witted tattoos is a flying penis, which Steve-O describes as “the dumbest tattoo ever.” He also has the words “s**t” and “f**k” inked on his knuckles, a tattoo on his buttocks which says “Your name” and another tatt which says “I Have A Small Weiner.”

Steve-O’s dumbest (or greatest, depending on how you view things) would have to be the life-size portrait of himself on his back. Now you can look Steve-O in the face when he has his back to you! The tattoo is actually pretty incredible and life-like. Underneath it he has the words “yeah dude, I rock!” Interestingly, his back face is actually bigger than his real face.  Steve-O thinks it has a great chance of making it into the Guinness Book of Records for the “largest self-portrait tattoo,” if he ever gets around to notifying them.

3. Dean McDermott

Dean McDermott must really love his wife Tori Spelling. The sometime actor and reality television star has not one, but two portraits of his wife inked on his body. Dean says the tattoos are a sign of his deep and undying love to the woman of his dreams and mother of two of his children. While rumors of trouble in the relationship have bounced around since the two got together, nothing says forever like getting your wife’s face tattooed on your body multiple times. Getting inked like this is more of a sign of commitment than any ring or piece of paper.

2. Jon Gosselin

Just when you thought this excuse of a man couldn’t do anything dumber, he goes and gets a huge back tattoo of a dragon. Yes, a dragon. I thought Gosselin’s diamond stud was a major sign of douchebaggery and a clear signal of a man suffering from a sense of male inadequacy. This ridiculously large dragon takes the cake. What makes it worse is that it has a greater meaning for Gosselin. He tells RadarOnline, "I have planned this tattoo for years now. I wanted something that resembled a rebirth or a change in me.” Get a job, support your kids, and please go away!

1. Coolio

Gangster rapper Coolio decided to put the cool back into his name by getting a tattoo in honor of the musical group Insane Clown Posse, whose fans are known as Juggalos and Juggalettes.   Coolio decided to beef up his street cred by getting inked with the word "Juggalo." The problem is that the person who inked him didn’t now how to spell it. They misspelled the word, leaving out a "g" and leaving Coolio with a tattoo that reads “Jugalo Cool.”

Coolio told TMZ that the misspelling was intentional and that he does not plan on correcting the “mistake.” But seriously, what else would he say, right?
